How did you wake up this morning? Your alarm clock? Your phone? Well we woke up to roosters cock-a-doodle-dooing at 4 am in the morning! It is day 3 here in Bali and boy has it been a whirl wind.

We landed in Bali at about 3 pm in the afternoon on saturday. Very tired and clearly not on the proper sleep cycle (it was 3 am in the morning back at home) We hurried in line to get a visa and then through customs. After about an hour we had all 6 of our bags (most of them Roy's haha!) We hopped into a taxi and proceeded through the streets of Kuta.

Kuta, what a wild place! Narrow streets, small stores crammed in every which way, selling just about anything under the sun, tourists bustling about their business in their Bintang tank tops and board shorts. Scooters buzz by you so fast and close that you swear its only a matter of time before you get whacked.

We got to our desired hotel, only 15 dollars a night. What a price! We slammed our bags on the ground and "napped" for 9 hours. When we woke up it was 1 am on a Saturday night. It was quite obvious that our next move would be, to go check out some of the largest and loudest clubs in the country which were so conveniently just a few blocks a way. We danced a few songs, and drank a few bintangs (the Indonesian staple beer) before realizing that we were just not quite at the same level as the other people there. We went back to our room and fell back to sleep. But have no fear, we see another trip to Kuta very soon!

In the morning, we grabbed a quick breakie, exchanged some money and we were off on a ferry to an island to where many of Roy's friends had been staying. Quite the opposite of Kuta, this island is serene and peaceful. We arrived at the hotel with no less than a parade, with 3 local guys from the ferry carrying each of our many bags leading us the way. What an entrance.
We got settled into our little room, and just hung around, still trying to acclimate to our new surroundings. We waited as many of Roy's friends came in from diving, running errands, or hanging out in their rooms. The night ended with one of Roy's friend's wife and friends making the best Thai green and red curry we've ever had!

The following few days were spent eating the most amazing food, meeting wonderful people from around the world, spearfishing, snorkeling, and exploring the island.

On a scooter, we saw much of the area such as the breathtaking beaches, views of distant volcanos, the local stores, and the many temples tucked away throughout the island.

We have been eating delicious Indonesian food such as Nasi Campur, which is rice with a fried egg on top, steamed veggies, and chicken satay (chicken on skewers with peanut sauce). I ate a jaffle, a grilled cheese with whatever you want in it I chose avocado and cheese, and Roy had banana pancakes which are more like a crepe than an American style pancake.

Snorkeling with the Manta Rays was incredible. Siobhan tried on her new dive gear, as we viewed the vibrant colored marine life below. We were lucky enough to swim with two different Mantas, and Roy was able to capture some nice photos of our dive.

It’s been a fantastic couple of days in Indonesia, and now we’re off for a week-long boat trip where we will be freediving and surfing with 5 of Roys Friends. Wish us luck!
